In the studio with a Grammy-nominated engineer

Dropping Sully is in the studio working on a couple of digital 45’s that we’re going to release later this summer.  We’ve been working with different producers and engineers to find the right fit for the material and having a blast in the process.  Last night we were working with the Grammy-nominated Jamie Cerniglia and some fine fellows at The Sheffield Institute for Recording Arts.

Here’s a new live video from our Unvarnished CD Release show earlier this year at The 8×10 in Baltimore.

Upcoming Show – The 8×10 with Freedom Enterprise and DELTAnine

Wednesday, May 29th, Dropping Sully will be returning to the legendary 8×10 club in Baltimore.  We’ve got some new material that we’re debuting.  Come see why one reviewer from Vents Magazine described our latest live EP, ‘Unvarnished‘, as “by far the catchiest, most interesting unsigned live record I ever heard”.  Here’s a new song that Chris and Andy sat down and recorded with their acoustic guitars: Last Greyhound Out of Los Angeles.  We’re pretty sure they’ll be playing it at The 8×10.

Catalogue Interpretations: Messalina

This song is about the Roman Emperor Claudius’ third wife Messalina. The context for the song is that she was pretty much running around on him all the time. Claudius kept turning a blind eye. She was going to have him killed, but her plot was discovered by a freedman advisor to Claudius. So you have this ex-slave taking down the most powerful woman in the world.  An interesting juxtaposition for sure. The Emperor was still ambivalent about having her killed because he still loved her despite her cheating heart, but hey that’s how the Romans did things. Vinum consolatur confractum corda

Give it a listen below. This track was recorded live at The 8×10 in Baltimore, and is on our EP, ‘Unvarnished’.  This track has gotten some airtime on 98Rock as well.

Some fun shows this week

We’ve got two fun shows this week.  First, on Thursday, we’ll be back at Stan and Joe’s in Annapolis.  And, then on Saturday, we’ll be headed into Second Chance Saloon.  Both shows are going to feature our sound, which one reviewer described as “a funk ridden back beat and Jerry Garcia tinged vocals”.
